This style is based on the shape of perennial Albam favourite, the Casual Blazer and has been crafted in England from premium, 100 per cent cotton, Portuguese loop-back fleece. It comes available in a short-run of Grey Marl and Navy colour options.

Unlined and unstructured, the garment features a simple three-button front fastening with a lapel looper detail that allows the Blazer to fasten high across the neck.

Elsewhere, the patch pockets are reinforced with cotton drill fabric – maintaining the workwear provenance of the style that inspired it. Concealed patch phone pockets also feature and the interior seams have been bound in a contrasting white 100 per cent cotton binding.

The Fleece Blazer has already been garment washed for a more laundered, casual appearance and is machine washable at 30 degrees.

What with us showing at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week for the first time, it seems right to honour one of our favoured architect/designers here at Albam Towers: Alvar Aalto.

Born in Finland (and so inherently imbued with that special Scandic vision that we love) Aalto is someone we admire for his masterful, considered, delivery of buildings in their totality – everything from structure to furnishings, including the design of furniture and glassware.

It’s easy to enjoy great architectural works for their sheer size or exhilarating form but Aalto, a man of playful audacity, also worked a lovely humanism into his designs: Such as the use of specially modified taps for the Paimio Tuberculosis Sanatorium, from which water poured noiselessly to avoid disturbing the peace. The chairs were also fashioned from moulded wood and plywood to ensure they’d be warmer to the touch for patients than metal ones.

Even when commissioned to design something for the very wealthy, such as the Villa Mairea, he’d approach it like an experiment that he’d hope would prove useful in furthering the success, relevance and quality of mass design.

All in all, Aalto’s pursuit of making things the best they could be, as honestly as they could be and without inherent exclusivity, is something that continues to chime with us here at Albam.

Today signals the start of Clerkenwell Design Week, a festival where all manner of professionals and aesthetes gather to celebrate the richness and relevance of modern design and look at lots of beautiful new creations.

And this year we’re delighted to be launching our own, concise, collection of functional furniture, including a version of the modular shelving that we use in our stores that we’ve updated and designed for domestic use. There’re no grand gestures, just some considered tweaks to ensure a relevant and functional shelving system.

We’ll also be presenting a large plan table crafted from powder-coated steel and English Oak. Crafted in England, both pieces represent our brand requirements of Simplicity, Honesty and Quality.

Our Modern Crafted Furniture will be shown alongside lovely offerings from the good folk at London based design company, Assemblyroom, whom we’ve collaborated with on two complementary products; the Long Eaton bench and the Allesley table, both finished with our signature leather detailing. They’ll be shown under the moniker “A x a” and will be found at The Shed, in the Farmiloe Building on St John Street.

Clerkenwell Design Week’s become one of the most exciting events in the design calendar so if you’re in the area between Tuesday 22and Thursday 24 May then do come and say hello. You’ll simply need to register on the website first. Informal drinks are happening on the Wednesday evening and it’ll be a lovely opportunity for the extended Albam family to meet – so see you there!

Location: The Shed. Farmiloe Building. St John Street. Clerkenwell.
Date: Tuesday 22nd May to Thursday 24th May.

This is a new thing for us and came about through a desire to create a place where we can try out new things and craft shorter runs than our usual styles.

Therefore we have launched the Web Exclusives with a tight selection of four styles. All are lovingly crafted in England, as most of the styles will be, and there will be more styles added as the weeks go by.

Without stating the obvious, the styles are only available online but if you need any advice on sizing, just give the web team a call and they’ll point you in the right direction – 0207 247 6254.

One last thing, we are crafting these styles in short runs so if there’s a style you are after, don’t hang around!

While it may be sunny outside today, if history has taught us anything the weather cannot be trusted. Thankfully it’s nothing a good bit of outerwear can’t protect you from.

This is where our macs come into play, while light weight for the sunnier days they’ll also keep you dry through those April showers.

First up is a classic, our Lightweight Rain Mac, available in two Prince of Wales check colour ways (Navy & Grey). Crafted in England from resin-coated cotton, featuring adjustable sleeve tabs and a poppered rear vent. Fastening with leather-backed poppers, this coat will not only look good over your suit but layered for that smart casual look.

A new arrival at Albam is the Tailored Mac – a traditional single-breasted mac made from an Italian Crepe Nylon/Cotton blend. In a limited run of faded black, this coat really is a something of a show stopper. Featuring welt entry hand patch pockets on the outer and a multi pocket interior. Fastening with Corozo nut buttons, also crafted in England, this will be a wardrobe favourite for years to come.
